New Century Chamber Orchestra is offering a half-price discount for audience members aged 30 and younger — just to get you started listening to the classics. If you’re new to classical music, this is a great place to start.
Led by world-renowned violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, the conductorless ensemble functions more like a rock band or string quartet. The musicians rely only on each other to hold the music together, and create energetic performances of the classics and new music. The program journeys from the light-hearted and elegant ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’ by Mozart to the terrifying ‘Psycho’ Suite from Hitchcock’s classic horror film. Next up is a world premiere violin concerto, written especially for Nadja by Clarice Assad, a talented Brazilian jazz and pop influenced composer. The program will close with the bubbly overture to ‘Die Fledermaus,’ a hilarious opera of love and revenge.
DEAL: 50% off tickets for the 30 and under set — that’s tickets at $16-$27 (regularly $32 to $54).
