Gadgets, video games, interactive kiosks … are you with me? No wait, how about a Wii-like surfing game that lets you hop on a surfboard and make like a serious Maverick’s Surf Competition competitor. See, if I said go to the History Museum, I might have lost you.
But seriously, go play on Waverider, the new Maverick’s Exhibit at the San Mateo County History Museum. The main feature is a multi-sensory game interface that lets you ride (or wipe-out) on the virtual big wave. Then hang your toes off another surfboard perched over the second floor window, just to see what a slide down a 40-foot wave looks like.
The exhibit showcases the history of surfing and Maverick’s with surf videos, notable quotes and a surf lingo lesson. The little surfer dudes will love it, too, according to San Francisco Magazine, who dubbed the San Mateo County History Museum “The Perfect Family Outing” in their Best of the Bay Area: The Obsession Edition.
WHAT’S THE DEAL: San Mateo County History Museum admission is only $4 for adults, $2 for students and seniors, free for children 5 and under. Waverider exhibit included.
WHERE: San Mateo County History Museum, 2200 Broadway St, Redwood City, CA.
