Lindy in the Park, Free Swing Dancing in San Francisco

If you’ve been to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on a Sunday, you may have noticed the group of Lindy Hoppers, or swing dancers, kicking it up to jazz, blues and swing music in the fresh open air. If you wondered who they were, or how to join in the fun, here’s the deal.

Lindy in the Park, or LitP, founded by Lindy Hoppers Chad Kubo and Ken Watanabe over a decade go, claims bragging rights as the original free swing dance party. Lindy in the Park is open to dancers of all ages and skill levels. It’s run by multiple volunteer DJs, so you’ll see a range of dance abilities an hear a wide mix of music. They welcome locals and tourists alike. Jump right in or sit and hang out for a while. They’ll also teach you the steps.

WHEN: Every Sunday (weather permitting, of course). 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

WHERE: San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, On John F Kennedy Drive (JFK Dr), between 8th and 10th Ave. (No cars allowed in this area on Sundays, so come prepared to park and walk).
