Kwanzaa at Bay Area Discovery Museum – Free

The Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito celebrates Kwanzaa on December 26, 2010, with African-inspired art projects and a Kwanzaa altar in the Museum’s Entry Pavilion. Renowned jazz drummer E. W. Wainwright and his ensemble, The African Roots of Jazz, will perform at 11am and 1pm, tracing African-American musical forms, such as jazz, gospel, and spirituals, from their earliest beginnings in African cultures to today. The program features instrumental music, songs, and theater. Audience participation is encouraged.

“Kwanzaa” is a Swahili word for “First Fruits of the Harvest.” The seven guiding principles of Kwanzaa Nguzo Saba are unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith – all wonderful personal values to be reminded of as you start the new year.
