San Francisco Giants or Oakland Athletics — you decide. Today’s giveaway, sponsored by Goldstar, is all about Bay Area Baseball. Enter to win by telling us which Bay Area MLB team deserves a gold star. Maybe both?
(Just want to buy the tickets? Goldstar has big MLB discounts on game tickets.)
THE PRIZE: One pair of tickets to your choice of the following games (one winner gets two Giants tickets, one winner gets two A’s tickets). The tickets are for seats in the Goldstar section, with an upgrade at the box office if we can swing it.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants
AT&T Park (San Francisco, CA)
2. Boston Red Sox vs. Oakland Athletics
The Oakland Coliseum (Oakland, CA)
TO ENTER: Leave a comment at the bottom of this page saying which tickets you want and why the San Francisco Giants or the Oakland Athletics get your Gold Star of Approval — or choose Both (and we’ll decide which pair of tickets to give you). Two winners will be notified by 5pm on Saturday, June 26.)
THE RIVALRY: Is there a Battle of the Bay? You tell me. Wikipedia alludes to a strong geographic rivalry between the Giants and A’s, but notes that it is generally acceptable to call yourself a fan of both baseball teams (unlike in other two-franchise baseball markets like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago). When the A’s won the 1989 World Series in a four-game sweep against the Giants, many fans donned ball caps that carried both team’s logos and colors.
San Francisco fans have good reasons to love their Giants even though the A’s currently hold the edge over them in head-to-head play. Some say Mother Nature voiced her opinion way back when she interrupted the last minutes of World Series Game 3 in 1989 with a 7.1 earthquake. The Athletics defeated the Giants in that series four games to none.

Because… We are travelling to SF for a week vacation begining 7/29/10
Living in Central Ohio leaves us the only professional baseball teams of The Indians and The Reds. These teams are not worth the trip 2 hours in either direction, let alone to see them play one another? Yawn.
SF and LA is a classic matchup and I don’t honestly think you folks within a short hop to see such a game really appreciate what you have in your own backyard.
We would love to enjoy, for us, what would be a once in a lifetime experience.
Stu
There is no place like the Stick. It saddened my when they moved, but they are still in my heart. Conversely, the Colosseum is easier to get to than the Stick. I suppose that I vote for both teams, but I am not a switch hitter – I look at what has/is happening with each team, select one for the year and stick with them, win or lose.
The SF Giant’s get my gold seal of approval. They are the pride of San Francisco. They put on a great show. They have revitalized a neighborhood. Plus all of the special memories created at AT&T park!
The A’s deserve the goldstar because they do not have as much bandwagon fans as the GIants do.
Half of the people are giants fans because of barry bonds used steriods to cheat the game or to see the view of the amazing stadium.
Too many times have I seen so called GIant fans go on their iphones or smart phones and just browse the web not even watching the game.
The A’s get the goldstar because we bleed gold and green. Whethere win or lose we support them. Even throughout this messy situation in which Bud selig will no grant them a new stadium in San Jose and the owners are not opening up the wallet to expand the payroll. Th fans still support the A’s regardless.
Every year my wife an I organize a group tailgate party of about 75 people at an A’s Game. We have done it for the last 6 years now, and have another coming up in August.
I have to say, the A’s fans are WAY MORE DEVOTED to their team than Giants fans. Giants fans claim to hate the Dodgers, but I see way more dodger fans come to S.F., than I see Giant Fans going to LA.
I say give the tickets to an A’s fan cuz we will represent our team, I mean c’mon it’s a week night game, give the tickets to someone who will show up!! Give them to a loyal fan that will drink some beer and eat some garlic fries like you should at a game…not like Giant fans who drink their wine and smear their cheese!!
Giant fans don’t care about baseball, they just care about ‘sideshows’, just look at their park, if it wasn’t new, they wouldn’t go!!
so if you couldn’t tell…I’d like the A’s tix please
LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND….LET’S GO OAKLAND!!!!
Oakland A’s and the Giants because the are both good teams and give their all!!
The A’s deserve my Gold Star because they have always done things the right way. They treat their fans exquisite, they remain competitive year in and year out despite having one of the leagues lowest payrolls. They are an example to my family, and I hope the entire Bay Area of how to live within our means. When I really stop to think about it, I am truly in awe of all of the beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis, in this vast expanse of paradise so many are lucky to call home. It reminds me of how precious and unique our position in the world truly is. The A’s exemplify the best of everything that the Bay Area is, and will yet become.
The Oakland Athletics definitley get my gold star!
As a loyal SF native, I say the SF Giants gets my Gold Star of Approval! I’d like the LA v SF tickets!
Giants get my gold star!!! Timmy Rules!!!
The Giants have continuously encoureged the development of youth , and the enitre community by est. many programs that foster baseball interest and aid to the disadvantaged–free area, gloves, camping, childrens park etc all serve families and the area very well- as an unemployed Vet I find baseball a great way to stay connected to the Bay area community-Lawrence
Duck the Fodgers
SF Bay all the way!
San Francisco Giants
THE DODGER’S SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough said…
Ther is no question about it!! Giants are the Gold Star…The Heart of SF!!!
LOVE THE GIANTS, LOVE THE GAME, AND LOVE THE CITY
The Giants and The A’s get each get a Gold Star because I love my bay area teams. Full support for our teams when they play at home. Beat LA!
The Giants get my Gold Star… the stadium is beautiful, the food is really tasty, and the action is exciting! Please please please give me tickets! Goooo Giants!
the giants get my gold star.
because they’re big.
After growing up in the midst of constant family rivalry about the White Sox vs. the Cubs I am firmly in support of Gold Stars for BOTH the As and the Giants. Any team that can bring attention and appreciation to the Bay Area whether it be SF or Oakland deserves my support!
The A’s get a Gold Star for their heart. I bleed Dodger blue through and through, so any other rival of the Giants is a friend of the Dodgers.
Plus, my boyfriend grew up watching the A’s, and he’s becoming a Lakers fan for me, so I guess I can support the A’s for him, too.
Giants get the gold star. Since I’m going to the A’s Game on Sunday.
I would like to see the Dodgers lose.
The A’s of course get the Gold Star approval. Been a fan since I first went to see them when I was in junior high school (Billy Ball Days). The coliseum feels like a ball park . I feel like I am at the mall when I go to a Giants game. The game is secondary to all the other stuff they have there to entertain you. When I go to a ball game I feel that that should be the focus. GO A’s!!!!
{I want the SF Giants tickets!]
The San Francisco Giants get my gold star of approval not only because they represent the greatest, most liberal, eclectic, and ‘green’ city in the United States (safe to say, the world), but also because at every game, win or lose, they give it their all and show everybody that they have excellent sportsmanship and a strong commitment to their team, their fans, and to baseball.
The SF Giants deserve the Gold Star of Approval. They have had a tough go of it over the past few games but each and every game they come back out on the field and play with heart and humor. Gotta love a team that plays like they love the game!!
Just moved up from LA, after years of getting my butt kicked. Have not been to a Giants game since moving last November!!!! I WANT GIANTS TICKETS!!!
My twins turn 5 on Sunday the 27th. I’d love to take them to the Giants game for their birthday!
Giants get my Gold Star of Approval, always loved the Giants as a kid and there’s nothing to convince me to switch teams. Plus any excuse to go to SF is good enough for me!
The Giants get my Gold Star of Approval but only because the ball park is next door to my husband’s work! So convenient!
Im voting for the As and as a rehabilitated former Boston fan I would love to see them lose to the A’s. Growing up in Cooperstown I saw and met a lot of jerk Baseball players (Reggie Jackson, Pete Rose) and some seriously nice ones (Mickey Mantle & Ted Williams). Giants Stadium is nice but a bit to refined for my baseball tastes, the team and crowd in Oakland are more my style. Serious fan following and a team that works hard and appreciates their fans.
Definitely the Giants! End of discussion. Gotta represent the orange and black!
Both teams get the Gold Star of Approval. The Giants have improved tremendously this year and so have the A’s…. the last 3 weeks not withstanding. We are fortunate to have both teams in the Bay Area.
Gold Star has to got to S.F.Giants! They are the heart and soul that make the city lights at night shine twice over………Go get em’ boys!!!!!!!!!!
Oakland A’s, my 5 year old son asked today when we can watch an A’s game. I said soon, without thinking about! So far today he has asked me 10+x’s what date are we going. Ugh! Then I start on facebook and find this giveway. Is it a sign? I guess I will find out if u contact me.
The Giants get the gold star because even though they haven’t had a championship in over 55 years, and never since the franchise moved to SF over 50 years ago, as an organization they have done what it takes to keep their bay area fan base happy and keep the team in SF in times when it looked like they may be the St. Petersburg Giants. As a fan for over 30 years, I can say that my memories of going to Giants games with my Dad are worth much more than any championship can provide.
My goldstar approval goes to the LOS ANGELES DODGERS!!! I live in the bay but stay faithful to my Dodgers! The team and the fans are awesome! If looks could kill when a Dodgers fan walks by a Giants fan. I want to go to the game!!!!
Gold star goes to the Oakland A’s for doing the most with the lowest payroll
My gold start goes to the SF Giants. They always seem to entertainment when i go to the ball park. Either a great game, play, view of the bay, or food. Let’s go Giants!
My gold star goes to SF Giants! Because they represent SF and always play their hearts out.
Gold Star to the Giants. While both teams have their merits, I’d much rather end up in the Giants stadium.
My Gold Star of Approval goes to the SF Giants, a team that is up-and-coming. They are stocked with young pitching arms that are going to be very good, very soon.
I give the Oakland Athletics the Gold Star. They have had the injury bug more than any team deserves yet they continue to play their hearts out. They also are extremely fan friendly
GO A”S !!!!!
The Oakland A’s get my Gold Star of Approval based on having won FOUR World Series titles during their time in the Bay Area, as opposed to ZERO for the San Francisco Giants (with five more years of playing ball on the West Coast, none the less). I’d love to win tickets to the A’s game!
SF Giants all the way! Been a fan pretty much my whole life..even before the new stadium and now my girls are just as big of fans as I am…It’s the best! One thing we can all agree on when it comes to spending time together – Going to a Giants game!
I am an A’s fan through and through.
The SF Giants get my Gold Star of Approval because I am a 4rd generation Giants fan…from Los Angeles!
My Gold Star of Approval goes to the SF Giants! Besides being a part of one of the best cities in the world the Giants always provide their die hard fans a great game in a gorgeous ball park! Great players, great ball park, great food, great views, what else could you ask for? I know….some free tickets!
The Oakland A’s get my Gold Star of Approval because they are a young, scrappy team that never gives up and finds different ways to win in each game!
