Flying a kite at the Family Day Kite Festival (September 17 and 18, 2011) is free, and so are kites for kids. The venue, San Francisco’s Marina Green, features “steady breezes, easy access, public transportation and free parking.”
Crowd favorites are the world champion acrobatic kites, and the hand-made amateur entries are fun, too.
Event Highlights include:
- Free kite-making for kids at the Make-a-Kite Pavilion
- Kite-flying for kids and adults alike
- Contests for kite-making and -flying, presided over by celebrity judges
- Professional performers flying high-tech and exotic kites
- Wind Power Exhibits coordinated by Competitive Power Ventures include Blue Green Pacific Alpha Turbine, on loan from the San Rafael high school Academy of Applied Physics and Technology.
- SF Department of Parks and Recreation will provide info on their services.
