Chinese Culture Center Spring Festival Celebration

If  you’re in San Francisco and looking for a free way to entertain the family during the Lunar New Year in Chinatown this year, don’t forget about the Chinese Culture Center’s Annual Spring Festival Celebration, the largest indoor Lunar New Year extravaganza in SF’s Chinatown. The Center is a great place to celebrate the Year of the Tiger before the 2010 Chinese New Year Parade to get a more intimate view of Chinese cultural traditions and Chinatown.

The event features live performances and hands on kids’ activities. Highlights include the Chung Ngai Lion Dance Troupe, martial arts presentations, Chinese folk dance, acrobats and a concert by the San Francisco Gu Zheng Music Society. Also planned: fortune telling, calligraphy demonstrations, an exhibition of the paintings of Master Kan Kwok Fan and more.

Kids will love the many hands on activities including puzzles and traditional paper cutting. Prizes await anyone who can solve the Center¹s lantern riddles, and all ages will enjoy a chance to have their fortune told along with calligraphy demonstrations and more. A special exhibition of the exquisite traditional brush paintings of San Francisco artist Master Kan Kwok Fan is also on view. Noted for his ability to capture the beauty of natural landscapes and his masterful handling of ink, water and color, Kan Kwok Fan¹s work has garnered international recognition.
