3 East Bay Restaurants on the List
Amanda’s Feel Good Fresh Food – Amanda’s is a feel good fresh food restaurant in Berkeley, California. They serve quick meals and snacks that are delicious, convenient, affordable, familiar and wholesome. Best of all, they manage to do it on the cheap using natural ingredients and environmentally sustainable practices. Try their natural meat burgers or their “real” veggieburger, and baked fries. 2122 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704.
Bakesale Betty Bakery – Australian cook Alison Barakat created Bakesale Betty in January 2002. She moved to the Bay Area from Australia in 2000 and cooked at Chez Panisse Cafe for 3 years. She began selling her baked goods at the Danville Farmers’ Market, where she met her husband Michael Camp. The two of them now bake and sell at the Walnut Creek Farmers’ Market as well as Bakesale Betty in North Oakland’s Temescal District. Her delicious treats, like date pudding, ginger cookies, are reminiscent of the ones Allison grew up eating in Australia. They also serve sandwiches. For pure comfort food, try the fried chicken sandwich. 5098 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA 94609.
