California Cash for Appliances – Rebates

California “Cash For Appliances” Rebates — Now is the time to trade in your old inefficient home appliances for new energy-efficient models…and get cash back!

The California Cash For Appliances program provides mail-in rebates on qualifying new refrigerators, clothes washers and room air conditioners, starting on Earth Day (April 22). The program is part of the President’s stimulus plan (similar to the recent Cash For Clunkers program for cars).

You can get one rebate for each type of appliance, just fill out and submit separate rebate and recycling forms. The program will pay out a total of $35,267,000, and when it’s gone, it’s gone. So don’t wait to get your rebate.

WHAT: Cash For Appliances rebates for California residents. Eligible products include refrigerators, clothes washers and room air conditioners. Rebates amounts for Qualifying Appliances:

  • Refrigerators – $200
  • Clothes Washers – $100
  • Room Air Conditioners – up to $50

WHEN: The period starts April 22, 2010, and lasts until May 23, 2010, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

HOW: To get the rebates, you’ll need to provide proof of residency, proof that you recycled your old appliance, and proof that you bought new Energy Star rated appliances from a California retailer during the rebate period. The appliance must also be installed before submitting the rebate claim. (More info at  cash4appliances.org or energy.ca.gov.)

CHEAP TIP: Other appliance rebates may be available from your utility company, appliance retailer, or other entity. Visit www.fypower.org for rebates in your ZIP code.
