American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) will throw open their 100-year-old doors FREE on Saturday, January 9, 2010, for a daylong celebration of craft, design, and performance, in honor of the centennial birthday of their historic home.
Calling it “A Landmark Celebration,” A.C.T. will make the entire building available for self-directed walk-about tours, with staff on hand to tell the behind-the-scenes story of this grand San Francisco’s playhouse.
Featured activities include: A reading by actors in A.C.T.’s core company and Master of Fine Arts Program; an inside look at the magic of the theater and tricks of the trade; an open Young Conservatory cabaret rehearsal; historical displays honoring the people, productions, and artistry of the theater over the decades; and prize drawings.
“This is a great chance to explore all the nooks and crannies most never get to see, from the uppermost lighting catwalk to the depths of the trap room beneath the stage—as well as a rare chance to have your moment in the spotlight standing on one of the most glorious stages in U.S. history.”
