Want to circle the city–by bicycle? I found this posting for a test ride of San Francisco’s 49-Mile Scenic Bike Ride, planned for this weekend (Sunday, May 23, 2010) by David Baker + Partners, Architects. Riffing on the San Francisco Downtown Association’s 1938 49-Mile Scenic Drive, the bike ride gives you a close up and personal peak at popular city sights. And they say this version actually is 49 miles long.
Group rides of this historic route come around now and again, but you can always do it on your own anytime. You’ll get a workout, but you can do it for free, and you won’t get stuck in traffic or have to pay to park.
The architects have included a cool map of the original 1938 route, along with a couple other useful maps, like this Bikely.com map of the route.
